This wood is sold by the Lineal Foot (LF).
COLOR: The sapwood is creamy white and may be streaked, with the heartwood varying from pale yellowish brown to olive green. The green color in the heartwood will tend to darken on exposure to light and turn brown.
HARDNESS: Janka hardness of 540 as compared to Red Oak's hardness of 1290.
GRAIN: Poplar has a medium-to-fine texture and a straight grain, as well as a mostly uniform texture.
VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: As with any hardwood/softwood, poplar has some variations in color and look from grade to grade.
SANDING: Sands well.
NAILING: A versatile wood that is easy to machine, plane, turn, glue and bore. Has little tendency to split when nailed.
FINISHING: It accepts and holds stain, enamel, or paint very well, and is exceptionally weather resistant.
