This wood is sold by the Lineal Foot (LF).
COLOR: Rich, reddish-brown. Cherry darkens considerably with age and exposure to sunlight.
HARDNESS: Janka hardness of 950 as compared to Red Oak's hardness of 1290.
GRAIN: Straight-grained and satiny. Small gum pockets produce distinctive markings.
VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: Light, strong, stiff and rather hard. Cherry's grain is more subdued than some other hardwood species, with very interesting character. Variation is low to moderate.
SANDING: The wood is reported to have satisfactory sanding characteristics.
NAILING: Good holding ability.
FINISHING: Cherry is unsurpassed in its finishing qualities, because its uniform texture takes a finish better than most other woods.
