This wood is sold by the Lineal Foot (LF).
COLOR: The wood has a gray to chocolate-brown color, sometimes with purple streaks or light-colored sapwood on the edges of its boards.
HARDNESS: Janka hardness of 1010 as compared to Red Oak's hardness of 1290.
GRAIN: Walnut usually has interesting and beautiful grain patterns ranging from straight grain to swirl patters to distinctive burl grains, depending on the cut of the wood.
VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: Grain will vary from board to board depending on the cut. Some boards may have more light areas than others.
SANDING: The wood is reported to have satisfactory sanding characteristics.
NAILING: Good holding ability, slightly less than Red Oak.
FINISHING: No known problems.
