This wood is sold by the Lineal Foot (LF).
COLOR: In yellow birch, sapwood is creamy yellow or pale white; heartwood is light reddish brown tinged with red.
HARDNESS: Janka hardness of 1260 as compared to Red Oak's hardness of 1290.
GRAIN: Medium figuring, straight, closed grain, even texture. Ocassional curly grain or wavy figure in some boards.
VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: Yellow birch boards can vary greatly in grain and color.
SANDING: Good sanding properties.
NAILING: Good nailing and holding ability.
FINISHING: Birch stains and finishes easily, due to its closed pored structure.
